Brief introduction of the content:

Longitudinal tracking research is a research design that repeatedly collects data from the same group of individuals at multiple time points. With this design, researchers can track the changes and developmental trends of variables over time.

Research on newcomer socialization is highly suitable for adopting a longitudinal design. The core reason is that organizational socialization is inherently a dynamic and evolving process, in which individuals’ perceptions of and responses to their environment change over time.

Through repeated measurements at multiple time points, longitudinal designs are able to capture the developmental trajectories of newcomers’ socialization during their role transition period. This enables scholars to explore the antecedents that shape distinct developmental patterns of newcomer socialization.

Based on studies published in Academy of Management Journal (AMJ), this presentation discusses the design and application of longitudinal research in the domain of newcomer socialization.
